Jubilee Experiment began in 2019 with a vision inspired by the following Bible verse: “You must not lend them money at interest or sell them food at a profit” (Leviticus 25:3). With this verse as inspiration, Jubilee’s founder, Henry Liao, felt compelled to address the systemic economic impediments that low-income individuals face when they attempt to take out good faith loans.
Just as Jesus calls Christians to “love your neighbor as yourself” (Mark 12:31), we at Jubilee Experiment strive to empower financially distressed individuals and families by providing interest-free loans so that they can gain financial freedom.
“If your brother becomes poor and cannot maintain himself with you, you shall support him as though he were a stranger and a sojourner, and he shall live with you. Take no interest from him or profit, but fear your God, that your brother may live beside you. You shall not lend him your money at interest, nor give him your food for profit. I am the Lord your God, who brought you out of the land of Egypt to give you the land of Canaan, and to be your God."
LEVITICUS 25:35-38 ESV
